Hamsters make excellent pets. As with keeping any pet, a hamster will require commitment to care for it during its life. Most hamsters live between 2 - 3 years. Syrian hamsters are the most common type of hamsters. Syrian hamsters need to live alone otherwise they will fight. You can also get dwarf hamsters which are much smaller and live in pairs. The main factor you need to consider before adopting a hamster is the cage. The cage needs to be a fair size, hamsters get bored easily so need plenty of space and several different toys to stimulate them. Toys can be anything from shop bought toys, to empty cardboard toilet roll inner tubes. Before contacting us with regards to adopting a hamster, you will need to have your cage ready. We do not do home checks for hamsters, but do ask to see a photo of the cage (preferably by email). We also ask for a minimum donation of £5 for a hamster to cover the costs of food and care whilst with us. Please email us if you are looking for advice on which hamster cage to buy, we are more than willing to help. To see the hamsters we have available for rehoming please click here
